Goodbye Bus!

 On Friday February 17, 2023 I stepped off of Bus #99 for probably the last time. Chances are good that I may not be on another school bus again as a driver. This was not because I did something wrong it was just because, as you know, I am retiring and the school wants to get another person for the bus and they have. Next week bus #99 no longer is MY BUS it is someone else's bus.

Just to keep you up-to-date I had a pretty eventful week. My wife and I bought a new car (just one car two names), my son had an impromptu trip to the ER, I got a haircut, and last night we had a Christian comedian at our church, Scott Davis. He was funny and blended in with his comedy the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

I am writing this while listening to my dog devour a bone and my son, Wyatt, saw logs. He and I are staying home while Jule, my wife, went to church. With the late night we had at the church last night we decided Wyatt needed his sleep. 

Tomorrow Monday February 20, 2023 I will NOT have to wake up at 5:00 am to be ready to leave the house by 5:40 ish in order to warm up a bus and be ready to leave the parking lot at 6:25. Knowing me I will still wake up early and do all the things I did before and then remember, "oh wait" Funny as that sounds by the time I realize all of that it will be time for me to do all of the things I need to do that I just did.

 It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to retire from my job of over twenty years. January of 2003 I began my journey with Newton Conover City Schools and on February 28, 2023 I will bid adieu when I step off bus #99 for the last time. In between those years I have had the honor of teaching too many children to count (although I am sure there is a way) I have seen my own children grow into young adults as they prepare for their passions. I have had absolute horror as I watched my youngest go through seizures daily and still be a beacon of hope for anyone who meets him. Planning

 Now if you have read my previous post in this blog you will already know that February 28, 2023 is my last day as an employee at NCCS. With that said there is a lot of things that have been going on lately. Training my replacements as in teaching them my bus route and starting Monday (tomorrow) I may be showing a new TA the ropes so to speak. Getting my insurance and other pension issues clarified are on the docket for the next few weeks.  Yesterday the church began meetings and rehearsals for the annual Easter Celebration. Most of my Saturdays are going to be me and about 250 crew and cast getting ready to worship the Lord on six nights beginning on March 24 and ending on Palm Sunday. It is a celebration of His birth, ministry, death and glorious resurrection. All are welcome to attend and worship with us.  When I am officially retired I will then jump into my new endeavor. WHY?

 I am sitting watching the Super Bowl so it is hard to concentrate on what I am writing. When I began this endeavor it was supposed to be a few entry blog that explored my journey into retirement. The reality of the whole journey is it could be reflection or anticipation today it is a mix of both.  My career in education began with subbing and then answering a job opportunity as a middle school softball coach and teacher assistant. That job led to me coaching multiple sports at Illini Central School District. I coached softball, basketball and track over the years I called IC my employer. During that time I took my history degree and pursued my education degree which after eaning my certificate/license it led me to Newton Conover Middle School in January 2003 where I stayed for about twelve years.
